Use of Space
A space for everyone
The Library is a space for everyone. Our 14 locations are all unique, and evolve every day because of the ways you use them.
My Library is...
A space for learning, connection, and growth. Settle in and get comfortable.
Breastfeeding friendly
All our branches are breastfeeding friendly. We are committed to creating an environment where all children and parents feel safe and welcome.
Connected
All our branches have self-service holds pick-ups, printing services, public computers, and free WiFi.
A flexible space
Flexible, bookable spaces are available for everything from quiet study to celebratory events. Eating is permitted in program or meeting areas, or in other areas as designated.
A multi-faith space
Connect with a staff member if you need a prayer space or quiet place for reflection—we are happy to help.
An accessible space
Service animals in authorized programs are always welcome at the Library. We are always working to improve the accessibility of our locations. Our locations are wheelchair accessible, and many locations have gender-neutral washrooms.
Shaped by community
Each of our locations, from rural to city-centered, offer unique environments designed to meet the needs of their local community and foster discovery, creativity, and engagement.
And, we're always open to your suggestions on how we can improve our spaces. Contact us anytime with comments, ideas, and questions.
Using the Library: Policy
Together, we are responsible for making sure the Library is a safe and welcoming place for everyone.
As a Library user, you commit to:
Respecting the environment
Please respect Library facilities, properties, staff members, and community members through your words, actions, and behaviours when accessing the Library online or in-person. In turn, we commit to always championing a respectful and socially conscious environment.
Respecting privacy
You are welcome to film and record your Library visit on a Smartphone or personal device. Please respect the privacy of customers and staff, asking permission before including them in your photos, videos, and audio recordings.
If you are looking to film inside a Library branch for professional or commercial purposes, Library approval is required. You will need to connect with us to share your request, coordinate details, and ensure all safety and insurance requirements are in place. Please email our Communications Officer, Anna Keddy, if you are interested in filming at the Library: keddyan@halifaxlibrary.ca
