It Came From The Second Floor

It Came From The Second Floor is a youth-led podcast recorded at the Halifax Central Library on, you guessed it, the second floor. Segments are written, produced and recorded by our teen volunteers inside the media studio. Subjects range from staying woke to current events, movie and book reviews, deep dives, music, and generally filling your half hour up with some high-class jibber-jabber.

The Second Floor Squad and the closest they could find to a responsible adult

Episode 1: It Came From The Second Floor

Outside In: Phat, Ozge, Haya and Manar discuss their trip to Canada, and their expectations as newcomers.
Stay Woke, Part One: Over the last year, many communities across the U.S. and Canada have considered whether the pride flag should be changed to include black and brown stripes, symbolizing the recognition of persons of color in the LGBTQ+ community. To see how this idea resonated with the LGBTQ and BIPOC communities in Halifax, Sam met with Morgan Manzer, chair of Halifax Pride.
Stay Woke, Part Two: Next, Sam caught up with local artist Kate MacDonald to hear their perspective and learn more about The Magic Project.

Episode 2: The Tommy Wiseau Aesthetic
Outside In: Last month, Phat, Ozge Haya and Manar talked about their expecations of coming to Canada. This month they talk about how those expectations matched with reality. Spoiler alert: Canadian food was not well-received.
Thrifting with Ozge ft. Maggie: Ozge interviews her pal and thrifter extraordinare Maggie about thrift-store finds.
In Theatres Now: Lola and Phat do an in-depth review of Marvel's latest film, Thor: Ragnarok

Applications to join the podcast are accepted in January and September. Call 902-490-2599 or visit the Halifax Central Library for details.
