Help! Changelings! Mamma Mia! by Gina, Teen Blogger

These movies are in the Adult Collection at Halifax Public Libraries:

The Help Changeling- DVD cover

Directed by Tate Taylor, original novel by Kathryn Stockett

This Oscar-winning novel/movie has a very powerful message that should not be overlooked by anyone. During the time of 1960s in southern America, when the Civil Rights Movement is rising against racism, the main character—a talented author—struggles to publish a book of collected stories from African-American maids.

Many emotions are portrayed, but I was unable to watch the movie without crying.

Changeling- DVD coverChangeling

Directed by Clint Eastwood

Changeling portrays the desperation of a mother whose child goes missing. She risks being targeted by a police department known for their violent acts and unfair treatment. She does everything she can do to get her child back. Even in the worst scenarios, the mother does not give up on finding her son and holds on to the last string of hope.

A bucket of tears is waiting for you.

Mamma Mia! - the movie-DVD cover

Mamma Mia

Directed by Phyllida Lloyd, original musical play by Catherine Johnson

Mamma Mia, the musical play, is already well-known for its exciting arrangement of songs by an admired band, ABBA.

The movie has hilarious characters and cast, an interesting plot, attractive music-all well balanced! For teenagers who haven’t heard of ABBA’s music, you will be a fan after watching it. The story itself is well-liked by a lot of other people, too. It involves a young soon-to-be-bride who grew up not knowing who her father was and who happens to find her mother’s old diary, learning about three possible fathers. She invites all three of them to her wedding, not quite giving second thoughts on what would happen next.

[Editor's note: This movie will make you laugh....and maybe sing]]

Enjoy the movie time!
