We are proud to offer our Eastern Passage community a new way to borrow books. Our first Community Library Kiosk has been installed in the Tallahassee Recreation Centre in Eastern Passage.
The Library Kiosk will always be stocked with books for all ages and interests. You can borrow and return books as you please—right there in your community.
Halifax Public Libraries has been dedicated to bringing library service to the community of Eastern Passage. We hold Pop-Up Libraries in the community on a regular basis at Fisherman’s Cove in the summer, Eastern Passage Education Centre during the school year, Ocean View Continuing Care Centre, and more.
Using the kiosk
- Scan your library card and enter your PIN number. (Hint: try the last 4 digits of your phone number)
- The door to the kiosk will open like a fridge.
- Browse the shelves for your next read. You can take the books in and out, read the back, judge them by the covers (we all do it).
- Once you’ve made your selection, simply close the door. The kiosk will take inventory of the books you have borrowed and print a receipt for your records.
- Enjoy!
Borrowing basics
All you need to get started is your Halifax Public Libraries card. Just like borrowing from a Library branch, books are checked out for 3-week loan periods. Books borrowed from the kiosk can be returned to any Library branch, one of our community returns locations including the one in the Tallahassee Recreation Centre, or right back in the same kiosk you borrowed it from.
Don’t have a library card? Visit one of our branches or request a library card online.
