Alderney Gate Public Library: Temporary Renovation Closure

Due to renovation work, Alderney Gate Public Library will be closed from Monday, March 24 to Friday, April 11, 2025.

Upcoming Temporary Closure

Alderney Gate Public Library is getting a refresh with new furniture! You'll soon see new bright new shelving, sofas, chairs, tables, and more upgrades throughout this busy and well-loved branch.

In order to complete this renovation, Alderney Gate Public Library will be closed from Monday, March 25 to Friday, April 11, with an anticipated reopening date of Saturday, April 12.

Borrowing and Returns

The book drop will be closed during the renovation period. Please hold on to your checked out items until the branch reopens, or drop off at another branch if needed.

If you have checked out items from Alderney Gate Public Library, or are planning to grab some before the closure, the loan periods for your borrowed items will be extended to accommodate for the closure. This ensures no items will be due for return while the Library and the book drop are closed.

Halifax Public Libraries is fine-free. That means you will not be charged for overdue materials, and can enjoy worry-free borrowing.

Holds Information

As of March 16, all existing and incoming holds at Alderney Gate Public Library will be paused until the branch reopens. You can continue to place holds for pick up at this location, but they will not be ready for you until after the Library reopens.

As a reminder, you can always change your pick-up location when placing a hold online. To do so, select any branch from the drop-down menu and pick up your items at another Library location.

More Ways to Borrow

Though our physical location will be closed, there are still so many ways to access your Library—virtually, and in your community.

Library Kiosks & Community Return Locations

Library Kiosks are a new way to borrow and return books, and are always stocked with a diverse range of books for all ages and interests. There are two Library Kiosks located close to Alderney Gate Public Library: Horizon Recreation Centre in Eastern Passage, and Gordon R. Snow Community Centre, opens a new window in Fall River.

Watch this video to learn how to use a Library Kiosk.

We also have plenty of Community Return Locations, and items can be returned to any Library branch, regardless of where the items were originally borrowed.

E-Library

Our E-Library is open 24/7, and your Library card gives you access to digital books, audiobooks, magazines, newspapers, movies, music, and so much more. We encourage you to explore all that our free E-Library has to offer!

We look forward to seeing you in a fresh new Library space, once Alderney Gate Public Library reopens.
