The Sunroom
Make yourself at home in The Sunroom at Central Library.
It's the perfect place to catch up with friends, get a little work done, and discover local art.
Want to see your artwork in The Sunroom?
Halifax Public Libraries’ Art Selection Committee invites artists to submit an application to display their work at Central Library. The Sunroom is a complimentary space, where rotating art exhibits highlight emerging and professional local artists, and reflect Halifax’s diverse artistic expression.
Please note that a formal call for submissions ended on October 9, 2024. Artists who wish to have their art considered for a future exhibit may continue to submit a proposal via the electronic and mailed application forms below.
- We'll consider original works of contemporary visual art by living artists—solo, group, or curated exhibits.
- We want to share our local cultural diversity, so we give priority to Halifax-based visual artists but we do also exhibit work from artists around Nova Scotia. By this same token, artists can only exhibit once every 2 years, unless invited by the Art Selection Committee.
- Typically, each art exhibit lasts between 6-8 weeks.
Before applying, please read the Terms of Reference for further details on selection criteria and exhibiting in The Sunroom.
Eligible exhibit proposals must contain:
- A Resume or Curriculum Vitae for each artist (Max. 2 pages)
- Exhibit Proposal (Max. 1 page)
- Artist(s) Statement (Max. 1 page)
- Artist(s) Biography (Max. 1 page)
