Your Library Wrapped 2024

There's something so satisfying about reflecting on your year and appreciating the moments that helped make it special. Here at the Library, we hope we got to be a part of your year—however big or small! To everyone who stepped through our doors, strolled through the shelves, dared to try something new (we see you, do-it-yourself-ers), and everything in between—thank you!

Inspired by the ever-popular Spotify Wrapped campaign, we wanted to share some of the standout items from our collection, featured events, social stats, and more from 2024 that helped the Library shine. Read on to reveal Your Library Wrapped.


Our socials stole the show

  • Halifax has spoken! In October, we polled Library lovers to see what they enjoyed us sharing most on our channels. You loved seeing book recommendations, sneak peeks into Library life, and some not-so-secret hacks about our free Library resources on our social channels. We can’t wait to show you what awaits in 2025. 
  • On Instagram, opens a new window, Mini-Con Trivia stole the show this year with 199 players. Oh, it’s on! 
  • We loved keeping it #REEL with you. In 2024, our Library staff were the influencers everyone wanted to watch, creating some of our most-watched Instagram REELS, opens a new window ever! 40,595 views on one video? They ate, and left no crumbs.

IYKYK: Our collection was your source for all things bookish

  • Our most popular titles of the year were worth the wait:
    • The Women, by Kristin Hannah
    • The Berry Pickers, by Amanda Peters (A local fave!)
    • Lessons in Chemistry, by Bonnie Garmus

  • Local authors are VERY popular with our readers: When the World Fell Silent by Donna Alward, The Berry Pickers by Amanda Peters, and Death and Other Inconveniences by Lesley Crewe have been some of our most in-demand books this year.   

  • Readers couldn't wait to get their hands on Canadian author Carley Fortune's book, This Summer Will Be Different, which takes place in our neighbouring province of Prince Edward Island.

  • You gave a hoot about hoopla, opens a new window—here's what people were tuning into most:
    • Discovery of Witches 
    • Wicked Little Letters
    • Brokenwood Mysteries
  • And, one simply can not forget about Kanopy, opens a new window!
    • Alone, the TV show, is the most popular offering on Kanopy in 2024, occupying 7 of the top 10 videos for the year.

  • Adults, opens a new window: Booktoberfest 2025, with 325 attendees
  • Kids/Preschoolers, opens a new window: 3rd Annual Funny Pages Festival, with 600 attendees
  • Teens, opens a new window: School Visit: Bayview High, with 480 attendees.                     
    • Top-Attended in-branch Teen Program: Taylor Swift Sing-Along with Nick Pettipas, with 174 attendees.
  • Top-attended program overall: Keshen Goodman Public Library's Grand Opening Event, with 1,000 attendees.

  • From January to October, we had 2,174,206 people visit the Library—the Library is a cool place to be, we know.
