On May 12, 2018, Halifax Central Library was invaded by Stormtroopers, Superheroes, Pokémon, and more for our 4th Annual Mini-Con. It was a fabulous full-day, all-ages celebration of all things geek.
The event grows each year and this was the biggest one yet. Our partners showed up in spades and you—our beloved Library nerds—showed up to see them.
We had a sweet start with cereal and morning cartoons that were created right here in Halifax, thanks to our friends at Carbon Arc, opens a new window and AFX. We heard about the latest and greatest graphic novels from our good friend Calum Johnson at Strange Adventures, and we shot Stormtroopers with Nerf guns thanks to the 501st Legion, opens a new window.
The best part of the event was most definitely seeing people of all ages come together for a lighthearted day of fun; from the tiny toddling ghostbuster to the grandparent pirates. A special shout-out must go to the Dad who joined the teens at the Injustice video game tournament to round out the numbers and then stunned his young competitors with his gaming skills.
We love that so many families decided to spend their day with us, making buttons, taking green screen photos, and snacking at the Manga Café.
We ended the day with The Cosplay Competition where the cutest 2 headed-monster from Sesame Street shuffled away with the grand prize in the 0-6 age category.
You made new friends and new connections and had a lot of laughs and that’s what the Con is all about.
We’re big fans of you and we can’t wait for next year. See you then, fandom.
