Panic! At The Disco is a band that has never shied away from taking a few risks. Completely change your lineup and genre 4 albums into your career? Sure. Release your album alongside a Duran Duran-inspired single about bisexuality? Why not? Use a Sesame Street sample in a song about clubbing? Sounds good to me. It’s things like this that make Too Weird to Live, Too Rare to Die such a unique album. From start to finish, anything goes.

The Breakfast Club: if you haven’t seen it, you have probably heard of it. It’s just one of those classic 80s movies, like Ferris Bueller’s Day Off or Footloose. You may wonder how a movie about five students spending a Saturday in detention could in anyway be exciting or inspiring enough to capture audiences and become a classic the way it has. But that’s the thing about good movies; they manage to take simplistic situations and transform them into interesting and thematic films that become the favorite of many.

The Black Halo was released on March 15, 2005, and nearly every review I could find of the album started with something along the lines of “is it too early to call this Album of the Year?” The fact that I’m not surprised in the slightest is probably a good omen. For those who have never heard of Kamelot, they’re a Symphonic Metal band based in Florida, but with members and guest musicians hailing from Holland, Germany, Norway, and recently Canada. A direct sequel to 2003’s Epica (more on that later), The Black Halo is widely considered the band’s magnum opus, and over 10 years later, it arguably still holds that title.

Adam Young, better known as lead singer, writer, producer, and - well, everything else - of the electronica act Owl City, is one of my absolute favourite musicians. He has the talent of being able to write songs that leave the listener with a complex mix of emotions, usually with happiness or peacefulness at the forefront and a bittersweet array of other feelings underneath. Some of the best examples of this can be found on the album An Airplane Carried Me To Bed, which he released under the alias Sky Sailing. This album started as a collection of songs recorded by Adam Young before Owl City even started, although they weren’t released until 2010. Because of the different name and relative obscurity, this album slips under the radar of many Owl City fans, but in my opinion, it is some of Adam Young’s best work.
