Help with Choosing a Book:
Need to do a book report or novel study, but don’t know what book to read? Looking for your next fun read, but not sure what book to pick? Try these:

  • NoveList- Includes recommended reads by category (horror, humour, etc.), as well as read alikes, author biographies and book discussion guides.
  • What Do I Read Next? - Recommends books based on what appeals to you. Find great titles by author, genre, setting or character.
  • Book Lists - Lists recommended titles available at the library.

English Literature: plays, poems and novels.

  • Bartleby.com
    Full-text versions of: style manuals, a thesaurus, the complete works of Shakespeare, books of quotations, mythology books, poetry anthologies, and classic fiction by authors like Jane Austen and Nathaniel Hawthorne.
  • Shmoop.com
    Covers lots of English curriculum titles from classic and modern novels to poetry. Includes easy-to-read summaries; discussions of themes, quotes, characters and literary devices, as well as biographies of many classic authors.
  • SparkNotes
    From classics like "1984" to ancient texts like "The Iliad" and the Bible to modern novels like "Brokeback Mountain”, SparkNotes include chapter-by-chapter summaries of many English curriculum titles, key facts about the book and an analysis of characters and themes. Some titles, including most of Shakespeare’s plays, are available in "no fear" formats - original text on the left and modern version on the right so you can read it and understand it every time.
